In the current era of personalized and translational medicine, the availability of biological resources such as human tissue and its derivatives for research which is apt for purpose and associated with well-annotated clinical data under approved ethical protocols is an invaluable facility for biomedical research. A decade ago Time magazine (2009) considered biobanks as one of the ten tools of importance that have immensely contributed to health and well-being. Though biobanks have been established over many centuries, it is only over the past fifteen years the present facilities have matured, and there has been high pitch for the professionalism and harmonization for all work activities.
